SGil - Slei Gill

Details :
A surface walk to the plentiful mining remains of Slei Gill Starting from the village of Langthwaite, taking in the Booze Wood Level and dressing floor. Up Slei Gill passing the spectacular Fell End and Tanners Rake Hushes as far as Washy Green then returning via Tanner Rake High Level and Booze. Rating. Easy walking.
Rating : Easy Kit : Boots, waterproofs, sun block, lunch and water.

SMa - Marrick Smelt Mill

Details :
Marrick High and Low Mills are very well-preserved and retain the best surviving hearths known nationally.
The 19th century Low Mill is divided into two main cells with a bellows hall to the west, and the smelting hall, which still retains a pair of intact furnace arches
High Mill is believed to date to the 17th century. Like Low Mill it is also well preserved with a pair of intact furnace arches.
This fascinating site is on private property, so can only be visited as part of a NAMHO visit.
Start time allows you to attend the lecture on the site in Grinton Church.
Easy - Quick or easy trip requiring no technical kit, suitable for all delegates of average fitness and ability.

SCob - Cobscar to Keldheads

This walk is in two sections. First a circle of 4 miles back to the cars at Langscar and lunch. Second section is 3 miles down and back to Langscar. Total 7 miles.
1st section Lead mining on Cobscar Vein (1650 - 1880). Lead smelting mill. Zinc mineral calcining. Coal mining on Preston Moor 16th century to 1900. Extension of Keldheads Vein. Surface evidence of 18th century drifts. Ancient field systems. 18th 19th century enclosure and land improvement.
2nd section down to Wensley Railway Station and back. Smelting 17th century to the 19th century. Peat House and remains of Keldheads Smelting Mill. Reservoirs and condenser. Horizontal engine house. 20th century limestone and ganister quarrying, aerial ropeway remains.
Rating. Easy walking, mostly on tracks, one short climb of 130ft over ½ a mile on first section. Steady climb back to Langscar on second section (300ft over ½ mile).
